The Bedrooms...
Before I was able to concentrate on writing full time, I was on the road as a stand up comedian for over twenty-five years.
In order to write under those circumstances, it's necessary to create a bubble for yourself, which isn't an easy thing to do in city centre hotels at the weekend.
The bedrooms here at La Pause then are spacious, light and comfortable, they are also private and quiet. King size beds, double aspect views over the two acre gardens and countryside, large en-suite bathrooms, wifi and TV and most importantly, a desk.
La chambre
Honoré de Balzac
Under sloping ceilings and large windows you can imagine that you’re sleeping under the stars and the vast Loire Valley sky, or even take a shower with a view of the surrounding countryside.
This large, comfortable first floor room is light and airy with a writing desk under the beams and named after Balzac who was born in nearby Tours.
La chambre
Pierre de Ronsard
A double, ground-floor room entered via the rose garden. This room is entirely equipped for wheelchairs or people with restricted mobility and has an en-suite shower room.
The writing desk is handily placed next to a day bed should procrastination grip you. Or you can step directly into the garden and sit at the many tables and chairs provided and watch the horse and goats. 'Prince of Poets' Pierre de Ronsard died in nearby La Riche.
La chambre
George Sand
Lie in bed and relax with a double aspect view of the calm valley and the quiet surrounding countryside.
This first floor room has a large en-suite bathroom and a further bed. Again the writing desk is under the original beams when this building was a barn.
George Sand was one of the most popular writers in Europe in the 19th century and lived just down the road in Loches.
The Salon...
Writing is a lonely business, and while solitude and peace are vital elements of the life of a writer, so is support.
The La Pause retreat is entirely self-catering, and in the fully equipped kitchen-salon you will find everything you need to take advantage of the local fresh produce. A large oven, fridge freezer, microwave, fellow scribblers and - the writer's friend - top class coffee machines.
We will provide the basics of oils, spices and so on, you can take it from there and, in the comfortable salon area, on the sofa or at the tables, you have the opportunity to help each other with your work.
